Whatever they like — whatever they seek — with launch of its new visitor website, Southampton can help travellers to make the most of their time here, all while living up to its motto as the “Gateway to the World.”
Built by Simpleview, a Granicus company, this platform was created as part of a wider collaborative effort between Southampton City Council, charity Southampton Forward, and GO! Southampton, the city’s business improvement district (BID). Unveiled on 3 July, this revamped site offers an array of updated features, including an itinerary planner and an improved interactive map of Southampton city centre. It also boasts a hub with specialised content for cruise passengers, a point that acknowledges Southampton’s position as one of Europe’s largest passenger ports. Finally, thanks to the enhanced functionality of this platform — built on the Simpleview CMS — local businesses can edit or amend their listings with ease.
Commenting on the launch in an official statement, Councillor Lorna Fielker, leader of Southampton City Council, said,
“There’s so much to experience in Southampton and we want visitors to be able to uncover as much as they can. This is much more than just a website — it’s a tool for both visitors and locals to get the most out of the city.”
Stephen Manion, executive director of GO! Southampton, added,
“This new website is a key part of our strategy to raise Southampton’s profile nationally and internationally. By working with Simpleview, we’re bringing global best practice in destination marketing right here in our city. It will help us to drive footfall, support local businesses, and put Southampton firmly on the map.”
